It pains us when we hear that our customers have fell victim to a storm or natural disaster.
It’s even harder when we find out that they were taken advantage of by an opportunistic contractor who promised to repair their damage and did not.
Unfortunately, this can happen to any of us. It can involve the contractor taking off with the money, using lesser quality materials or practicing poor workmanship.
Don’t be the victim, twice.
There are plenty of very good and honest contractors out there. However, if your personal or business property is damaged after a storm, we highly recommend you do your homework before signing anything.
A few things to consider:
- Hire local contractors that will be around if anything should arise with the repairs during or after the restoration
- Check references
- Verify the contractor’s license and insurance
- Consider getting multiple bids and/or opinions
- Consult the Bureau of Consumer Protection and the Better Business Bureau to see if there are complaints against the contractor you’re thinking of hiring
- If something doesn’t seem right – give your insurance agent a call!
